Getting To Know You
Where are you from?
I’m from Harrisburg, the best state capital in the US.
Can you tell me a little about your background?
I started out working in television production for a network covering politics, then made my way into PR.
Who is your spirit animal and why?
One of those circus seals that balance beach balls on their snouts. They’re funny.
What would your ideal Sunday entail?
I like lazy Sundays. A morning of soccer (either watching or playing), then a home cooked meal late in the afternoon followed by an evening stroll in the park is a good day to me.
If you could have dinner with three people – dead or alive – who would you choose?
Levon Helm, Bob Dylan and Don Rickles.
What’s your favorite curse word?
My mother will read this. I don’t have a favorite curse word. I don’t curse. I can’t even think of a curse word.
How did you arrive in NYC?
I’d always wanted to live in New York, so I just decided to make the leap. Moved to Brooklyn and took a few freelance gigs here and there before landing my first solid full time PR job.
Last song you listened to on your phone?
I don’t listen to songs on my phone. I refuse to give Apple money for a headphone dongle and their earbuds suck.
If I wasn’t in PR, I’d be…
Scanning the jobs classifieds with a highlighter.
About your work at Ditto
If you had to describe Ditto in three words, what would they be?
Smart, productive, unconventional
How would you describe working at Ditto?
I love the pace of the industries we work in along with the nature of the clients. The people at Ditto aren’t bad either.
What makes Ditto different than your past jobs?
Ditto employees are engaged and inquisitive, with a real understanding of their clients and their clients’ industries. You really don’t find that everywhere.
Bigger thoughts on life and career
What makes for a positive work environment?
Curious, smart people and fun work. It’s as simple as that.
In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a good boss?
A good boss offers guidance without being a micromanager. A good boss offers space for independence but isn’t detached. Intelligence is a big factor as well, obviously.
How do you think the PR industry could improve?
PR professionals should be much more thoughtful in how they approach communications strategy and media relations. Bad PR professionals give the industry a bad name.
