Today, we announced the opening of Ditto West Coast and the hiring of communications veteran Blain Rethmeier to run the office.
Ditto takes a no-nonsense, results-focused approach to client work and is expanding to meet the growing demand of its clients in the consumer, technology, nonprofit, education and financial services sectors. The firm will also add two new offerings to its array of integrated services including crisis communications and “Inside-the-Beltway” communications for Bay Area companies and startups seeking a voice in the political, policy and regulatory conversation unfolding in Washington, D.C.
“Opening a West Coast office is a no brainer because we have always had clients in the Bay Area,” said Trey Ditto, CEO of Ditto. “We believe that our New York attitude to public relations – meaning we work fast and hard and deliver impactful results immediately – translates nicely into the Bay Area where other PR firms have grown too big, lost their personal touch on accounts and offer capabilities they simply can’t deliver on.”
Ditto, founded in 2012, is modeled differently than traditional public relations and communication firms. The firm got its start in media relations and has since expanded into newsworthy content creation, marketing and digital strategy as clients needed a more integrated and aligned approach under one roof. The entire Ditto Team is comprised of senior-level professionals who specialize and excel in a range of sectors and capabilities, meaning for a client, anyone can answer any question and solve any problem. Companies that hire Ditto see communications as a business decision and expect results that will positively impact their bottom line – not fluff, jargon and underwhelming outputs.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to be joining Ditto during this exciting new chapter for the company,” said Rethmeier, Managing Director of Ditto. “Trey has built a very strong firm and reputation by delivering on the things that matter for clients – results that help their business and build awareness. As we develop a more substantial presence in the Bay Area, I’m looking forward to scaling the business and helping companies get the coverage and counsel they demand and deserve.”
Most recently, Rethmeier led Edelman’s Western Region Crisis & Risk Practice and was the firm’s lead for their Los Angeles corporate practice. Blain has also served in senior communication roles for the American Insurance Association and the U.S. Travel Association and has extensive experience in the White House, at federal agencies and on Capitol Hill. He served as special assistant to President George W. Bush for communications in both the National Economic Council and Homeland Security Council and was called upon by the current Administration to help lead the Senate confirmation for General John Kelly, the current Secretary of Homeland Security.
“Blain brings a new, unique skill set to Ditto and the Bay Area. He’s a seasoned pro who has deep relationships with key reporters, understands how to solve a company’s communications needs, has handled large-scale crisis communications for Fortune 100 companies and knows how to navigate the political and issue-based environment in Washington D.C.,” Ditto said. “We are a better firm with his leadership.”
Ditto is a Brooklyn-based PR firm that believes results matter. Strategy, messaging and counsel are important parts of communications but many firms fail to deliver actual results that help a clients’ business. Ditto is a team of senior-level, full-time communications professionals who work on accounts ranging from law firms to non-profits to fintech to edtech. Ditto approaches work and life differently than other PR firms. We work hard, have fun, deliver results and then go home to our dogs, family and last night’s leftovers. Vacation is unlimited – but also mandatory every quarter. Staff are given merit-based bonuses every month and have a matching 401(K). You can enjoy your job, your colleagues, your clients and your life outside of work.
